Gene Swartzendruber opened Hesston Machine & Welding in 1961 as a part time repair shop to supplement the income he was making on the farm. By 1965 his part time repair shop turned into a full time career and he gave up the farm to pursue the business. Through the late 60's and 70's Hesston was a growing town with a lot of construction so Hesston Machine & Welding stayed busy with construction work between farm repair jobs.

in the 1980's Gene's son Stan came back to the family business after working several manufacturing and industrial repair jobs. His experiences brought some new perspective to the company and his vision for growth and expansion lead the company to grow out of the local Hesson area to reach many new customers in different fields. While construction and farm repair were still the backbone of the company Hesston Machine & Welding began working with companies on prototype manufacturing as well as short run production work.

In 1988 Stan took the reins of the company and began expanding the horizons even more with new equipment and new ideas. Hesston Machine & Welding became Hesston Machine & Welding Inc. in 1994 which came with more employees and the growth of construction operations and mobile welding work. In 1998 Hesston Machine & Welding Inc. purchased an 18 ton crane for doing millwright and metal building construction and spent several years involved with erection projects in the surrounding counties.

In 2010 Stan's son Brett returned to the family business with a degree from Hesston College in Business Management. He spent several years after college pursuing management roles in several fields, most recently in commercial auto part sales. He has never lost his desire to follow his family's entrepreneurial footsteps and is excited to see what he can bring to the table for the future of Hesston Machine & Welding Inc.

"We are looking to the future every day with this company and are furtunate to have the strong foundation my grandfather and father have laid for us. I will always remember the roots of this company are in the service to our costomers and the quality of work our reputation stands on."
